So I Write

A blog all about books, writing, baking, and life as a woman in her twenties

Happy Friday!

I cannot believe it’s already Friday again, I feel like it was just last weekend. I’m glad it is the weekend, though, because I am very happy for the break after a busy week. Although it has been busy, there have been great things going on this week, so let me share them with you!

First, I had a fun baking adventure this past Saturday! My family has been obsessed with the Food Network lately, so I have been wanting to bake constantly. I had also been craving macarons off and on, so I thought I would give making them a shot. I love those little, airy cookies (that are also typically gluten-free since they are made with almond flour), but I knew that the process of making them is fairly difficult. I wasn’t sure how it would go, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised with some pretty tasty macarons! I forgot to buy food coloring, so I ended up with an interesting teal color (the only color we actually had), but they tasted good, so I’m happy! And I’m thinking I will be baking them a lot more often in the future.

Then, on Sunday, I had the chance to walk around downtown with Bryce (my boyfriend) and his family, and that was a lot of fun. Since he has 9 siblings, we make quite a group, but that also makes for a lot of fun and laughter. There’s always someone to talk to or something going on, and walking downtown Columbia and spending the evening with them is always enjoyable. And it gave Bryce and me another chance to do better about taking pictures.

Another highlight of the week: online shopping. I have to be honest, that is one of my weaknesses. And there’s this great online boutique called Glamour Farms that I am just completely in love with. They have a great website—and an even better app—with the cutest clothes, and they are constantly having sales! When I find a good deal on something I love, I just can’t help myself, so I ended up ordering two beautiful dresses this week.

I know I talk about books all the time, but I am reading/listening to two phenomenal books this week, so I just have to share. Last week I shared that I was listening to the audiobook of The Sea Keeper’s Daughters by Lisa Wingate, and I loved that book. I cannot tell you how much I loved that book—but I will try when I finally get around to reviewing it. Anyway, I finished it. And since it feels like I am always driving, and I like to listen to audiobooks while I drive, I started a new one. Now I am listening to A Broken Kind of Beautiful by Katie Ganshert, and it is fantastic. I’m not very far in yet, but already I have fallen in love with Katie’s powerful way of portraying real, broken people, and I cannot wait to see how the story continues. Then, in my rare moments of free time, I am finally reading A Defense of Honor by Kristi Ann Hunter. I am a huge fan of her work, and have been ever since her first book, A Noble Masquerade, came out—actually maybe even before that when I first read her ebook prequel, A Lady of Esteem—so I am so glad I’m finally getting a chance to read this book.

An older picture from a trip to the museum; there was no one around so we had to take it “selfie” style.

Lastly, I am thankful for the sweet couples of Bryce’s two sisters, Carly and Makenna, and their boyfriends Alex and Brandon. Bryce is the oldest sibling, but he has two sisters who are the next oldest after him, and both of them are in relationships as well. That makes for two built-in couples who we can go out and double-date or triple-date with, and that is always a lot of fun. We all get along really well, and have had a few really great adventures together. Last night we had the opportunity to all join together for a bible study Alex’s mom had to put on for a class she is taking, and even though it was a more serious-type evening, we still had a lot of fun.

So, those are my highlights for the week! What about you? What have you been up to?

Happy weekend!
